The Last Shadow Puppets release 'Dream Synopsis' EP

The Last Shadow Puppets will release ‘The Dream Synopsis’ EP on the 2 December.

Recorded in a single day in New York, the EP consists of four covers bookended by TLSP originals ‘Aviation’ and ‘Dream Synopsis’; both tracks are from the latest LP, ‘Everything You’ve Come To Expect’. The covers on the EP are: ‘Les Cactus’ by Jacques Dutronc, ‘Totally Wired’ by The Fall, ‘This Is Your Life’ by Glaxo Babies and ‘Is This What You Wanted’ by Leonard Cohen.

TSLP have released a music video for the Cohen cover and is an interesting, slightly fractured and restive interpretation. Directed by Focus Creeps, the video sees Alex Turner in a kind of black bondage playsuit wearing sunglasses and gyrating around, flanked by the rest of TLSP who are in strange progressive lounge-lizard clobber. Fans got the chance to hear the covers on the EP for the first time when the band toured the UK in spring, as well as at appearances at festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella.

TLSP is a baroque-pop collaboration between Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys fame, and James Ford from Simian Mobile Disco

It will be interesting to see what the band do with timeless classics like ‘Totally Wired’ and ‘This Is Your Life’ and whether they do the originals justice. One gets the feeling that Mark E Smith might have something to say on the matter. It’s an interesting choice to do a proper mix of cover and originals, and one that will hopefully prove fruitful.
