Austin Collings continues his tales of the North's still suburbia, via a new exclusive story for Coney's Loft.
The Salford based author's previous work includes Mark E Smith's biography and short story collection The Myth Of Brilliant Summers, released on Pariah Press, a publishing house launched by Jamie Lee, of Manchester band MONEY.
But waz iz?
The turquoise gloves formed the bullseye of my 5-year old life. They had
my whole heart. They were my escape, my pulsebeat of the world. I wore
them in the sun and the morning cold and in the grey light of school. See the
child. I was the boy in the playground with turquoise woollen gloves
covering his fingers. I stood amongst violent children with them on:
prophets of destruction keen to destroy and annoy. The attachment
was intense and illogical. So be it. My dreams were troubled by their absence.
Orphaned from their magic, I knew I wouldn’t be the same without them
in this dark future wrapped in a dream. They were the turquoise of summer
skies in later life that would pain me with a savage loveliness.
