Watch Trailer for Oasis Documentary, 'Supersonic'
For some, the wait has been far too long and the void only grown bigger, larger and even more cavernous. However, if you have been holding out for an Oasis re-union, rejoice! It might not be the reunion you wanted but it is the re-union you’ve got – and all you needed was a documentary time machine to make it happen.
‘Supersonic’ a film about 90s Britpop overlords, Oasis and a documentary that promises to show the career highlights of “one of rock’s true giants”. Released in cinemas 2 October, the film was produced by director Asif Kapadia and James Gay-Rees who made Amy and was directed by Spike Island’s, Mat Whitecross.
Just watching the trailer will plunge you into a nostalgic revelry that you may never want to come out of. Charting their jobless and day-dreamy days growing up in Burnage, Manchester to getting signed by Alan McGhee, the documentary goes onto show the musical explosion and manic adoration that followed after Oasis’ first album release, Definitely Maybe.
Interspersed with archive news clips, home made camera footage, music media interviews and Noel Gallagher’s narration the film should serve to only intensify and idealise a full-blown Oasis re-union. Director, Mat Whitecross did not rule out a possible reunion revealing that Coldplay’s, Chris Martin had been negotiating between the two Gallagher brothers and also added that: “Neither of them have discounted the idea of getting back together. It will happen, I’m sure. The idea of never seeing them again for me is impossible.”
Whether an Oasis reunion is possible, viable or even inevitable remains to be seen. For now, it is great to see them as they once were in all their finery and with all their bluster.
