Sound City announces initial lineup for 2018 event

Sound City, one of Europe’s leading metropolitan festivals of music and arts, has unveiled the first ten acts confirmed to appear at the 2018 event.

Peace, Slow Readers Club, Ibibio Sound Machine, Baxter Dury, Idles, Jaws, Low Island, Cassia, The Orielles and Zuzu will all play across Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle and Cains Brewery during the May bank holiday weekend.

The newly announced lineup showcases a diverse mix of artists and sounds, from alt-psych rock from Peace to the African and electronic beats of Ibibio Sound Machine. Cassia, The Orielles, and Zuzu lead the way as the young acts to watch.

Over 250 new bands and headliners are due to perform at Sound City with intimate stages, pop-up shows, warehouses, and more planned. The festival will return to its roots for its 11th year, welcoming iconic acts alongside the best new music talent from home and abroad.

Becky Ayres, Sound City’s COO, said of the announcement: “We are all immensely proud and happy to reveal our first artists for 2018. We wanted to lay down a marker for what everyone can expect from our festival’s return to its roots, and we hope that the range and dynamism of these opening ten names reflects where we are taking Sound City for next year and far beyond. Seeing these guys performing up close and personal across a wide spectrum of locations is going to be really special. And of course, there is plenty more to come too as we enter the new year – this is just the beginning!”

The 2018 festival calendar will also feature music business conference Sound City + and new initiative Sound City Satellite. Sound City Satellite will see the Sound City festival model travel to towns between Manchester and Liverpool to promote the best in live music and the cultural potential of each area.

Applications are still open for artists to apply to play at Sound City until 19th January 2018.

Sound City 2018 takes place in Liverpool from 5th - 6th May 2018. Tickets are available now.
