Gruff Rhys, Fat White Family & Wild Beasts to perform alongside John Cale
The Velvet Underground's, John Cale has revealed a stellar list of musical collaborators due to perform at the 50th anniversary celebration of The Velvet Underground & Nico at Liverpool Sound City.
The Kills, Gruff Rhys, Clinic, Nadine Shah, Fat White Family & Wild Beasts will all perform alongside Cale at the one off open-air concert event in the heart of the city’s docklands. The event will see The Velvet Underground’s debut album played in full during a re-imagined show intended to honour the legacy of an album widely regarded as an all-time classic.
Acts including The Kills and Gruff Rhys have often cited The Velvet Underground as a major musical influence within their own careers. Clinic too can be seen to channel the art rock sound that has cemented The Velvet Underground in music history. Fat White Family and Wild Beasts will bring noise and energy to the anniversary performance, while Nadine Shah will stand in as a modern day Nico.
Cale has said of his collaborators: “It’s such a privilege to have this calibre of artistry about. It’s not that they fit the legend, rather the legend is part of each of them. Stand back Liverpool - here we come!”
Alongside the anniversary performance, Cale will also appear in conversation at Tim Peaks Diner during Liverpool Sound City to discuss the length of his career and his relationship with Lou Reed. Danny Fields, former manager to The Velvet Underground, will also appear in conversation.
John Cale and collaborators will perform in celebration of the 50th anniversary of ‘The Velvet Underground & Nico’ at Liverpool Sound City on Friday 26th May. Cale and Danny Fields will appear at Tim Peaks Diner on Saturday 27th May.
