'Dying Laughing': stand-up comedy documentary
Exploring the highs and lows of a life dedicated to making others laugh, new documentary Dying Laughing unpacks the careers of acclaimed stand-up comedy legends and their soul-bearing public art.
Featuring in-depth interviews and analysis, the film sheds new light on the work of British comedians including Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, Steve Coogan, and the late Victoria Wood. American greats Jerry Seinfeld, Sarah Silverman, and Jamie Foxx also feature.
Dying Laughing received wide praise after it premiered at the Los Angeles Film Festival, before going on to achieve a successful release in the US.
Documentary co-directors Paul Toogood and Lloyd Stanton said of their film: “Over two years, as the film began to emerge from the thousands of miles travelled and hundreds of hours or interviews, we learned about the physical and emotional dedication that it takes to become a stand-up comedian, and that the prospect of failure haunts even the most experienced and celebrated practitioners.”
‘Dying Laughing’ is released in UK cinemas and video-on-demand from 16th June.
