The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki, a new feature film chronicling the true story of one of Finland’s greatest boxers, is to be released 19th May.

Starring Jarkko Lahti as Mäki, the film follows the boxer as he prepares to fight for the 1962 World Featherweight title. Living in a small town in rural Finland, Mäki is suddenly thrust into the spotlight with the expectations of a nation firmly placed on his shoulders. Tensions continue out of the ring, with Mäki torn between commitment to his sport and a newfound romance.

Shot in stunning black and white, the film is a charming addition to the growing catalogue of Finnish cinema being exported to worldwide audiences. The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki has received critical praise, with screenings at the Toronto International Film Festival and BFI London Film Festival. The film earned director Juho Kuosmanen the Un Certain Regard Prize at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

‘The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki’ will be released on streaming service MUBI from 19th May.
