Joel Thomas releases new track Sunshine Funshine
Channeling Teenage Fanclub via Jimmy Eat World and a poppy palette of US college rock, Joel Thomas unveils his latest track, Sunshine Funshine.
Fizzing with upbeat energy and crunching guitar, Sunshine Funshine has the makings of an indie summer anthem. A newly released video for the single also reflects the delights of the season, seeing Thomas explore the beach whilst helping himself to 99s from a classic ice cream van.
Thomas credits The Smiths as an influence on the track. "Because of their melodic guitar work and satirical lyrics" he explains. "That’s where I got the over the top chorus 'as long as I’ve got you I don’t care if my skull caves in' but musically this song is influenced by Ty Segall with his rough around the edges kind of style."
The twenty two year old Liverpudlian is the latest signing to Edge Hill University’s in-house not-for-profit indie label, The Label Recordings. Sunshine Funshine features on the label’s double A-side summer sampler alongside psych punk foursome Oranj Son.
‘Sunshine Funshine/Still’ is available now via The Label Recordings.
