Balenciaga exhibition: Shaping Fashion
A retrospective collection of the revered couturier, Cristóbal Balenciaga is currently being celebrated in London’s V&A museum.
The legacy of the designer, who created a multitude of revolutionary silhouettes, is housed in the museum until February 2018. From iconic pieces of spectacular tailoring such as the ‘one seam’ coat, to hand-embellished garments of opulent wonder – all of the designs still appear to be futuristic and will be a treat for any lovers of the iconic fashion house.
The exhibition features over 100 garments and 20 hat designs by Balenciaga, but also features various garments by other designers whose influence from Balenciaga is apparent - designers such as Iris van Herpen, Alaïa and Oscar de la Renta.
As the house celebrates 100 years since the opening of the first fashion house in San Sebastian, the V&A’s vast collection offers a glimpse into the innovative ways of the house and a beautiful assemblage of garments that move beyond fashion, into the realms of art.
V&A's Balenciaga Retrospective is open until February 2018.
