Captured Tracks to reissue Martin Newell's Greatest Living Englishman
Captured Tracks announce they will be reissuing Martin Newell's acclaimed Greatest Living Englishman LP on 23 February. This will be a vinyl-only reissue.
Martin Newell spent the '80s being compared to Robyn Hitchcock of XTC, so it was poetic that XTC's Andy Partridge would produce this 1993 Newell solo album. Not a stretch from Martin's days as The Cleaners from Venus or The Brotherhood of Lizards, the production here is cleaner than on Newell's home recordings, with the songs as melodic and adventurous as ever.
Newell is devoutly English, writing his songs much in the way Ray Davies sculpted his observations of British life, past and present, with The Kinks.
Calling Newell a "cult glam rock/punk/new wave survivor," The Quietus have noted that beyond his career in music he is also England's most-published living poet.
The vinyl reissue will feature the original tracklist envisioned by Martin Newell and Andy Partridge.
