Insecure Men share new single 'I Don't Wanna Dance (With My Baby)'
Insecure Men have unveiled their new single I Don’t Wanna Dance (With My Baby), the latest track to be taken from their forthcoming self-titled debut album which is released on Friday 23rd February 2018 on Fat Possum.
The accompanying video, shot in Blackpool, was directed by renowned London-based independent production team Sharp Payne (www.sharppayne.com).
Talking about the video, director Jak Payne said:
Me and Saul had spoken about making videos that felt dated and kitsch, and kind of invoked this old British seaside culture. We found a kid's ballroom dancing competition up in Blackpool, and it worked with the style and lyrics of the song. I really liked the pageantry of the whole event, these 12 year olds dolled up in make-up and these very 70s, bright dresses. There's something bizarre and unsettling about it, it feels cartoonish in how exaggerated everyone’s out-fits and expressions are, which, I think, goes with the Insecure Men sound.
Taking inspiration from the exotica of Arthur Lyman, the early electronic pop of Perrey and Kingsley, the supreme smoothness of The Carpenters, the songwriting chops of Harry Nilsson and the hypnagogic uncanniness conjured up by David Lynch - the upcoming album is outwardly a charming exercise in timeless pop, exotica and easy listening however, there lurks a darker heart beneath the surface. As Saul says it’s “pretty music with a dark underbelly to it”.
