Louder Than Words Music Literature Festival Returns
The Louder Than Words Festival of music and writing returns to The Principal Hotel, Manchester, between Fri 9 - Sun 11 November, bringing its sixth edition. It remains the only festival that interrogates that enduring love affair between music and the written word.
Recent additions to the line-up, including The The frontman and songwriter, Matt Johnson and broadcaster, Gemma Cairney, suggest the festival to be one of, if not the best yet.
Pink Floyd bassist, Guy Pratt performs his one-man show ‘The Inglorious Bassterd’, with tales of working with everyone from Michael Jackson to Madonna. The Madonna theme continues in discusson with author, Lucy O’Brien about her recent book on the legendary singer. Strong female artists of pop and rock remain a theme as the festival welcomes Zoë Howe, talking about her Stevie Nicks biography, delving deep into the career and life of the iconic Fleetwood Mac singer-songwriter.
Chris Difford talks about life with Squeeze, Kevin Cummins discusses his photographs of Morrissey, Jordan looks back on life as the original punk with Cathi Unsworth and Stuart Bailie is in conversation about his book Trouble Songs: The Story of music and Conflict in Northern Ireland since 1968.
Andy McCluskey sits down to reflect on his time in music, most notably with electro/new wave giants, OMD, David Gedge from The Wedding Present makes a rare personal appearance without his band, Sheila Rock talks over her photography with Rudi Esch (Die Krupps), crime novelist Ian Rankin tracks his life through ten albums and Dave Haslam talks about his recent book ‘Sonic Youth Slept’ on my Floor.
The Festival offers a unique chance to get up close to people often only seen on the stage, with numerous academics and music writers gathering alongside bona fide punk, pop and rock stars for panels, discussions, Q&As and workshops.
