New live music fund launches in Wirral

Wirral New Music Collective have set up a live music innovation fund to provide a series of £500 grants for local musicians, promoters or music lovers – anyone with a great idea – to put on an innovative live gig in Wirral this summer.

The group is made up of record labels, music writers, promoters, visual artists, artist managers, magazine publishers and musicians who believe in music’s power to shape a new future for the Wirral.

From OMD to The Coral, Wirral has an enviable music heritage and an unrelenting capacity to produce nationally and internationally significant artists. Yet, at present, it don’t have a single live venue dedicated to new music and little infrastructure to support the local music
community.

Wirral New Music Collective provides a first step to change this. Thanks to The Beautiful Ideas Company and Wirral Borough Council, the group are scouting the most ambitious, outlandish, interesting and fantastic ideas. That may be a night of experimental electronica in Birkenhead Priory, heavy dub in Woodside Ferry Terminal, twisted anti-folk in Birkenhead Library or frenetic post-punk in Gallagher’s. It could be a German techno DJ or a touring Americana artist with a support bill of local talent. It could be exclusively local talent.

The scope is only limited by your imagination.

All they stipulate is that the show needs to take place in Wirral and needs to feature at least 50% Wirral artists on the bill.

The group encourage applications for shows across Wirral, but there is a particular emphasis on shows taking place in Birkenhead:

The closing date for applications is FRIDAY 6TH APRIL 2018.
