Planet Giza Share New Track 'Brk Frm Nrml' Featuring Mick Jenkins
Montreal trio Planet Giza share new track “Brk Frm Nrml” featuring Chicago rapper Mick Jenkins, taken from their forthcoming project “Added Sugar”. The group concoct an effortlessly smooth, soul hued track, their vocal interplay gliding across the beats before acclaimed wordsmith Jenkins jumps on a verse.
The band say of the track:
“Brk frm nrml is one of the first songs we made while working on the “Added Sugar” project. It set the tone for the direction we wanted to take sonically. Having Mick Jenkins on the record displaying lyrical prowess changed the whole dynamic of the song.”
With Jenkins adding, “Brk frm nrml, was quite literally a refreshing vibe from what I was listening to at the time. It’s closer to a soulful sound that I readily identify with so it was easy to hop on this joint floatin with a good energy that matched the vibe”
Planet Giza consists of Rami B, Tony Stone and Dumix,. The crew have released a series of projects over the last couple of years, most recently 2018’s “ZZZ” EP, a hypnotic 3 song project showcasing their versatility, with each track revealing their mastery of different styles. They effortlessly weave elements of hip-hop, soul and funk into a concoction which nods to the past but has it sights firmly set on the future and the trio is able to reflect their multi-cultural backgrounds through this repertoire of varied sounds. They attribute this to the diverse community of their city Montreal, as well as their widely-varying musical influences: from Lil Boosie and Madlib, to Roy Ayers and Michael Jackson. They easily sit alongside contemporaries such as The Internet, Kaytranada (who they’ve collaborated with on 2017’s “Domina”) and Goldlink.
