It's cliched to be cynical at Christmas

Through absolutely no fault of your own - you like it when 'Stay Another Day' floats through a tense H&M as you buy your dad that jumper you'd almost wear yourself.
It's the association isn't it. Without much choice - the East 17 lads and Slade, Mariah, George et al have soundtracked many a banging UK Christmas. These tunes are intertwined into our collective Chrimbo conscious and there's no going back. Some are unbearable. But for every 'Mistletoe and Wine' there is the ferocious feel good of that Shakin' Stevens chorus.
And besides - in the words of Half Man Half Biscuit, it's cliched to be cynical at Christmas.
That said, when recent Coney TV performers Hazy Head chucked this rather alternative Christmas tune our way, we were prompted to look beyond the superstore smashes. From Low to the Cocteaus, here they are.
LOW - JUST LIKE CHRISTMAS
HALF MAN HALF BISCUIT - IT'S CLICHED TO BE CYNICAL AT CHRISTMAS
COCTEAU TWINS - FROSTY THE SNOWMAN
GALAXIE 500 - LISTEN, THE SNOW IS FALLING
THE RAVEONETTES - CHRISTMAS (BABY PLEASE COME HOME)
THE FALL - HARK THE HERALD ANGELS SING
