The Best of The Beatles

The Best of The Beatles

When social detonator Alan Partridge is asked suspiciously; "What's your favourite Beatles album, then?" while trying to impress a hotel porter, he replies "... I'd have to say … The Best of The Beatles".

It's a moment up there with 'smell my cheese, you mother!' and 'Dan!!' But needless to say, Alan's had the last laugh.

The Beatles' entire music catalogue is now available on all major streaming services this Christmas as listeners everywhere compile all killer no filler 'Beatles Bangers' playlists. The Best of The Beatles will now be omnipresent.

The Fab Four are arguably the greatest artists in history - across any medium - but did they ever nail it on one album in the same way as say Love did with 'Forever Changes'? Probably. But their best tunes are scattered across several albums. It's not just the Stereophonics that have fillers. Take 1965's 'Lennon album' 'Help' where the majestic 'It's Only Love' is preceded by Ringo's dosy paean to sodding it and just being yourself 'Act Naturally'. For years I've been legging it between A Hard Day's Night, The White Album and Help to listen to my favourite Beatles tunes.

Maybe Alan Partridge is right?

Sometimes you get stranded on the sonic island that is the best of. I remember getting lent 'Hot Rocks' 1964–1971 - the first ever compilation album of Rolling Stones music, released by former manager Allen Klein. Disc one was perfect and I knew it couldn't be beaten. Of course, I've been caught up in moments of dick swinging musical trivia where a knowledge of obscure albums like 'Tatoo You' would have been welcomed. But repeating these ten absolute monsters has more than made up for that. 'Time Is on My Side', 'Heart of Stone', 'Play With Fire', '(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction', 'As Tears Go By', 'Get Off My Cloud', 'Mother's Little Helper', '19th Nervous Breakdown', 'Paint It Black', 'Under My Thumb'.

So here it is: 'The Best of The Beatles' by Coney's Loft.

If I Fell
She Loves You
Two Of Us
You Really Got a Hold On Me
I'm Only Sleeping
For No One
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
In My Life
I'll Be Back
Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand
A Day In The Life
I Need You
I've Just Seen A Face
Across The Universe
And Your Bird Can Sing
